Description

full title: Mesa Verde Mustang Foal Portrait

a disclaimer:

"Wild Horses" in America are actually more accurately described as feral horses, even though they have been feral for hundreds of years. The horse is not a native to the north American continent. That's why I will post all pictures of Mustangs under "Domesticated Animals"

Righto, anyway...

Yesterday My friend and I drove out to Mesa Verde National Park Colorado. It was amazing and hopefully I will get some pictures of the ruins up later. while we were leaving my friend who was driving slams on the breaks as a coyote ran across the road. We watched him run and were surprised to see a female Mule Deer in pursuit of the canine. After a few moments of laughter we looked through the trees that the deer and the coyote had come and saw a small band of the park's mustangs. My friend, bless him, consented to parking the car and I hopped out and started to slowly walk sideways towards them.

This little guy was an adorably fluffy foal, or coming yearling depending how you look at it. I wanted to put him in the car and drive off with him, and to tell you the truth if I had happened to have a trailer rope I might have been sorely tempted to try. He was curious and one of the bravest babies I've ever met. He kept trying to creep up on me when I was taking pictures of other members of the band. He got within 10 feet of me, and given more time I probably could have got him to let me approach him and give him a pat.

Maybe I'm being too bold to think it's her, but out of about 80 horses at Mesa Verde, only a dozen or so hang out near the visitors at Chapin Mesa.  And very few are dark with white blazes.
